It wasn’t that long ago that a certain something swept throughout our world that caused economic, political, social, and physical chaos. However, history is full of similar stories. Change is constant, and any hope we put in the status quo will be disappointed.
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 7:24-29 that it’s not a matter of “if” those storms come; it’s a matter of “when.” Twice, he says, “The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house.” We can be sure that our life’s foundation will be tested. There’s no getting around it. The question is whether the foundation we stand upon will stand up to the test.
Have we chosen to build on a firm foundation, or not?
Jesus warned that if people trust only in themselves, their life can easily crash down around them. He reminds them that there is only one way to build a storm-proof house, and there is only one rock we can build securely on. We must build our lives on the rock of Jesus Christ - the one and only Savior - and His Word. He promises a new life that begins now and will last with God forever.
As we close out our series on the Sermon on the Mount, we will find that although storms may surround us, if our life is built on the rock of God our Savior, our future will be secure. Only in Him can we be assured that our foundation is rock-solid.
