I’m not the smartest person I know, and I’m OK with that. I’m also not the wisest, though I would like to be. God also knows I’m not the smartest or wisest person, but I am deeply grateful that his love for me is not based on how wise or foolish I am (Romans 1:14). Yet God does draw some lines that I need to understand.
According to the Bible, God does reveal himself to all people through his creation, by which we become aware of his presence and clearly see “his eternal power and divine nature.” Whatever we can learn about God from observing his creation is often called general revelation. However, general revelation does not reveal Jesus to us, and Jesus is our only hope for fully knowing God. So, we also need the special revelation that describes the way of salvation in Christ. And that comes to us in the Bible, God’s Word.
This week, we are starting a new sermon series called “When Storms Come.” The premise of this series is that when we face hardships and difficulties, we often ask the big questions of life: Does God exist? Is the Bible reliable? Can God be trusted? Why is there pain and suffering?
Each week, we’ll be tackling one of these questions and seeking to find answers and assurance in God and his Word. If you are struggling in your faith (or you know someone who is), this will be a great apologetics series for you (and them).
